We are proud to introduce you to the Calactus Café in Moncton, New Brunswick. They have been chosen by the Canadian Dining Out Guide as one of the top 100 places to eat in Canada and after trying the food, we see why!

Situated in the heart of Moncton, is a beautiful old home that has been transformed into New Brunswick's ONLY 100% vegetarian restaurant. "Calactus is a constellation in the sky of pertinent stars that refer to times of change." As the restaurant's title suggests, Calctus Café is responding to the increasing want, and need for a shift towards health - for us, for our furry friends, and for this beautiful planet upon which we reside. Marc and Vera, a warm and welcoming couple, opened their doors 5 years ago with a small inheritance form Vera's grandmother. From the outset, their approach appears to have been: ethics, quality and kindness first, business second. An approach that can sometimes be frightening, for, with it can come times of financial strain, but in the end, it always turns out for the best. In the spirit of Karma, Café Calactus has many loyal patrons who appreciate the phenomenal food, warm and peaceful environment, and accommodating hosts.
As stated in Monctons daily "The Forum": "You can be assured that no matter what you order, it will be good for you and the environment." Too true. On an average week, Café Calactus generates only one garbage bag of waste. This they achieve by offering all vegetarian fare, buying that wich has minimal packaging, and composting all that can be composted. Their ingredients are local and organic wherever possible and their coffees are all organically grown, fairly traded and locally roasted. The menu is an eclectic blend of various international culinary fares and everything is extremely modestly priced to boot!
Aside from being a fabulous place to dine, it is also a great place to view the work of local artists, peruse the CDs of local musicians or just kick back and read. There is such an incredible atmosphere of acceptance, peace, and pro-activity that it would be difficult not to find a corner to call your own at Calactus Café!
And if all this wasn't enough…the company vehicle? That's right: a Volkswagen van! How could you not love them?!
