Athletes (Lean and not so Mean!!)
Before even beginning the perusal of this section, if you haven't already done so, go take a gander at the "Dispelling the Myths" section. No one will here "How do you get enough protein?" more than a vegetarian athlete! There is no increase in protein requirement increase for athletes engaging in aerobic exercise aside from the proportional increase that comes with the extra calories needed to sustain the energy of an athlete. Anaerobic athletes (engaged in weight bearing sports) have a very small additional requirement; but this too can be fulfilled by the increase in caloric necessity. Here is the 'short-list' of some of the extraordinarily successful vegetarian athletes as adapted from John Robbin's book "Diet for a New America" and Nettie Cornish's book "CIG Being Vegetarian in Canada".
